Annapolis Talks. Talk to the hand

As I was walking up the stair I met a man who wasn’t there. He wasn’t there again today. I wish that man would go away. Guess who that man is…

That man is the beleaguered country of Israel. According to most of the Arab states, Israel, with whom they are going to have peace talks (pardon my scepticism) does not exist, nor does it have the right to exist.

The Arab countries who said they will attend are Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia and Yemen. However, only two of them, Egypt and Jordan, recognise Israel. All the others have reluctantly agreed to attend the Annapolis meeting with a person whom they claim is not there. Go figure.

The Saudi Foreign Minister warned that he will not shake hands with the Israelis because that would be hysterical behaviour and we all know how reasonable and unhysterical the Saudis have demonstrated themselves to be. Take the case of that poor Saudi woman who was gang raped by seven, yes, seven men, and who complained about it to the courts. Not only was she found guilty of being in the company of men who were not related to her, but when she appealed her sentenced, she was given a double dose of lashings. Now that is so perfectly rational isn’t it?

Frankly, I think that Israel can forgo the thrill of shaking hands with the Saudi Foreign Minster. Not without a strong disinfectant after the joyful event.

Saudi Arabia is a heavenly place for women but only when they totally obey the menfolk. If they get raped then it’s their fault. Saudi women need permission from a male to travel or have surgery. They cannot be seen in public alone or with strangers. They are forbidden from driving and must wear full burka.

I have often thought that Sigmund Freud would have a ball analysing the paranoia of the Arab men. The men are so insecure in their own masculinity that they have to subjugate women. It’s as if the world would explode if women were allowed human rights. Women would take a look around outside their homes and think that perhaps their husbands weren’t that crash hot. Can you imagine how impotent the men must be psychologically if they can’t stand the idea that a woman might refuse them.

They strut around with their wives ten paces behind them, pretending to be macho when they are pitifully terrified deep inside of being judged on an equal footing with women. How pathetic is that!

And these are the people with whom Israel and the U.S are intending to have a productive dialogue. Yes, I know it’s all a performance and that nothing can come of it.

The Arabs will rant and rave. They will condemn Israel but not the suicide bombers or the Hamas rockets. They will make demands of a nation which according to jokers like Saab Erakat, doesn’t even exist. It’s all so very surreal, isn’t it?

The Arabs will go off in a huff and start bombing and slaughtering again and then they will blame Israel for retaliating. “Plus ça change; plus c’est la même chose ” Yes, you might as well talk to the hand cause the face ain’t listening.
