There’s a very good chance that had Lanny Perry Barnes of Atlanta, Georgia, been a fine upstanding citizen he would have been dead by now.
Barnes has leukemia and is due for a bone marrow transplant for free. An ordinary law-abiding U.S citizen would have been billed $300,000 for the transplant or if he couldn’t pay then he’d be dead. But Barnes has just been sentenced to life in prison for intentionally running down five people and even killing a two-year old girl. It was a random attack in a parking lot. Barnes admitted to having backed up in his car and smashed into the victims again.
This convicted felon will get the transplant for free and in an ironic way his victims will be paying for his treatment, as will the citizens of America. There’s got to be something wrong with a society that gives preferential free treatment to convicts. The irony of it all is that the victims themselves still have outstanding medical bills and several more surgeries to endure.
So the moral of this story is if you can’t afford America’s excellent but expensive medical attention then all you have to do is commit a serious crime and you will be handed a doctor on a plate.
